Oct 10, 2009 -- Bellingham, WA to Portland, OR

Like the Willie Nelson song goes, "...On the road again..."  That is us today.  We checked out of the motel and headed down I-5 toward Portland, OR.  We had hopes of seeing some of our old neighbors (we used to live there)  and visiting with Ruth's cousin, Barb Jackson and her husband, Earl Peach.

The day had gotten rather cloudy by the time we passed through Seattle, but we got this picture of the Space Needle and part of the harbor in flight as we drove through:

On down the road to Portland, we took a little side trip to visit the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center.  We were in Portland when St. Helens blew its top, so we wanted to visit the center and see reminders of what an amazing event it was. We got this picture of the mountain poking its head into the clouds some 20 miles east:

As we were coming into Portland, Mount Hood appeared through the afternoon haze.  Our plan is to go up this mountain, our old skiing grounds, tomorrow:

We checked into our motel for the night and headed out to meet Barb and Earl for supper.  We met at Corbett Fish House near downtown Portland, and had a delightful meal.  They are well known for their gluten free dishes, so Bill was all grins.  They even had gluten free beer!  We caught up on all the goings on since we last saw them years ago in Michigan.  Our enthusiastic waitress got a picture of the four of us:

It was a very nice evening, Bill was satiated and happy and we had caught up with some special people.  We all headed our separate ways, promising to meet sooner next time.
